The Darien Road Race, celebrating its 31st year, helps local cancer-support and social services organizations in Fairfield County. Our recipient organizations include The Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital, The Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital, and The Community Fund of Darien.

Each September over 400 runners turn out to take part in this Darien tradition. Both the 10K and 1.5K races, which start and finish at Pear Tree Point Beach, wind along scenic waterfront roads and town streets lined with hundreds of family members and spectators.

 “The Finish Line”

 “The Finish Line” is a fun-family-friendly event for children and families who are participating in the Darien Road Race. There will be food, music, and booths with games and activities under the Big Tent at Pear Tree Point Beach on Sunday, September 20. The Finish Line will be open before, during and after the race from 11:00am-2:00pm.

Activity booths are staffed by community organizations and offer a game or activity appealing to children from “tykes to teens.” Kids who participate will receive prizes and gifts provided by the sponsor organization. Entry requires a ticket purchased on race day.

Contributions will support The Community Fund of Darien; The Bennett Center at Stamford Hospital and The Whittingham Center at Norwalk Hospital. 

The Finish Line is available to organizations that can provide the following:

 ·         A safe, well-organized, fun-family-friendly activity for ALL ages – “tykes to teens”

 ·         Prizes and take-aways

 ·         Self-staffed including set up at 11am and clean up at 2pm

DRR will provide a 6’ table, cover, and signage

Space limitation: table provided under the tent; unlimited space on the beach

Please, no candy, small items or messy activities

Possible activities: guessing games, bean bag or Velcro toss, hula hoops (if outside the tent), ball in cup or ball with paddles, face painting or coloring

Possible prizes: beanie babies, wrist bands, yo-yos, small toys (no candy please)
